Job Description and Duties

The SUN Bucks OT will be joining a fast-paced, exciting team responsible for building and maintaining an important new anti-hunger program.  The CDSS SUN Bucks team has already achieved remarkable results, as California is among the first states in the nation to implement the SUN Bucks program.  In order to ensure the continued success of the program, the SUN Bucks team is seeking a capable and effective OT.

Job Description and Duties - Under the supervision of the SUN Bucks Outreach and Communications Unit Manager (SSM I), the Office Technician (OT) provides a full range of secretarial and administrative support for the Unit Manager. The OT will also support other members of the leadership team as necessary. The position requires detailed knowledge of departmental operations and clerical procedures; good judgment; effective communication skills; proper grammar, spelling and punctuation; and strong word processing skills.

Working Conditions

This work location is very convenient! The CDSS is located two blocks from the light rail and public transportation: within walking distance to the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmer’s markets and the Golden 1 Arena. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80. 

This position is eligible for hybrid work in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order N-22-25 and at the sole discretion of the Department of Social Services under California Government Code Section 14200. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be re-evaluated at any time. The incumbent will be expected to report for in office work and attend work related in-person events as deemed operationally necessary. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the CDSS policies. 

Please note: Regular commute is not compensable.

SUN Bucks is a new, federally funded program that provides food benefits to families with children who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals.  SUN Bucks works just like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), called CalFresh in California, but for the summer.  It is a crucial new tool for preventing childhood food insecurity in California.  The SUN Bucks team is responsible for implementing and overseeing the new program. The SUN Bucks team will provide policy development, manage outreach contracts, training, technical assistance, program support, and stakeholder engagement throughout the entire state of California.

The SUN Bucks team is seeking a highly motivated, positive, and self-directed individual with strong interpersonal and organization skills who understands team dynamics to support positive outcomes. The ability to meet deadlines is also crucial. The OT must have working knowledge of the computer and have the ability to use the following programs:

Microsoft Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, and) Outlook, Adobe and Internet browsers.
