The Information Systems Division (ISD) California Departmental of Social Services (CDSS) is seeking
critical thinkers with project management experience working with internal and external stakeholders for large multi-year IT Projects.

If you are a highly motivated self- starter, and possess excellent written and oral communication skills. If you enjoy collaborating with IT partners to complete large IT projects on time and within budget, this is the perfect position for you.

The IT FMS will provide administrative support and detailed reporting throughout the contract life cycle of FMS projects in CDSS Project Oversight & Strategic Technology Branch assisting the Project Manager to lead a systematic approach to project oversight.

You will closely interact with various levels of ISD leadership, IT staff, customers, vendors, and subject matter experts throughout the software development life cycle.   The goal of the SDLC life cycle model is to deliver high-quality, maintainable software that meet the contract deliverables on time and on budget. 

You will  monitor and manage executed contracts during the development life cycle. You will be responsible to draft contract documents, analyze contract issues, facilitate the evaluate progress of IT projects.  You may also facilitate and contribute to the procurement through the Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Offer (RFO) process as well as contract processes such as contract amendments.

This is a 12-month limited term position and may be extended to a maximum of 24-months and/or may become permanent based on operational needs.

Working Conditions

  • Position requires operating a computer terminal approximately 80% of the time. 
  • Position requires reading and understanding large amount of written materials.
  • Position requires attendance of regularly scheduled and on-call meetings and communication usually through MS Team.
This work location is very convenient! The CDSS is located two blocks from the light rail and public transportation: within walking distance to the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmer’s markets and the Golden 1 Arena. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80. 

This position is eligible for hybrid work in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order N-22-25 and at the sole discretion of the Department of Social Services under California Government Code Section 14200. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be re-evaluated at any time. The incumbent will be expected to report for in office work and attend work related in-person events as deemed operationally necessary. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the CDSS policies. 

Please note: Regular commute is not compensable.

  • Experience leading meetings and using strong verbal and written communication skills to present information to all levels of stakeholders, including management, business and technology staff, and solution partners, to prepare and present written recommendations, and to report project information accurately and timely.
  • Requires strong skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and other desktop software.
