Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Information Technology Manager II and guidance of the Information Technology Specialist II, the Information Technology Specialist I (ITS I), acts as a Security Analyst performing risk assessments to identify, manage, and mitigate infrastructure architecture risk with potential to impact business objectives. Works with the CMD Information Security Officer (ISO) to perform duties related to Information Security Engineering, including, but not limited to: Incident Management, Privacy, Security Compliance, Security Risk Management, and development of policies, procedures, and training. The ITS I is responsible for evaluating incoming Risk Assessments and advising programs on security risks and mitigating controls. Interface with management, team members, and vendors to develop and implement new solutions to meet business requirements. Develops/maintains information security plans, policies/standards, as well as analyzes incoming suspicious emails and makes recommendations to stakeholders. The ITS I further develops, delivers, and maintains the information security awareness training to the State Workforce. The ITS I performs incoming Legal Hold, Data Loss Prevention and computer investigations, as well as providing security expertise in areas including, but not limited to, System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and contract language for security provisions.

Department Information

As an employee of the CA Military Department (CMD), you are required to perform the “essential functions” of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. You are expected to work cooperatively with all internal/external staff, to provide the highest level of customer service possible while meeting the CMD mission.  All employees are required to treat others fairly, honestly, and with respect.

The CMD has free parking; a free gym on-site for employees; and conveniently located within a few miles of major shopping centers, including many restaurants.

Persons employed at the California Military Department must be a United States Citizen (or naturalized citizen) and able to pass a background investigation and LiveScan fingerprinting.

*This position may/may not be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the CMD and based on the current telework policy. While the CMD supports telework where possible, in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises, as determined by the Department.
