Working Conditions

Training and Development assignments may be considered based on the availability of eligible candidates and are subject to approval by the Hiring Authority prior to appointment. Training and Development assignments are temporary in nature and shall not exceed twenty-four (24) months.

Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview, but they must provide proof of residence in California prior to being eligible for appointment. 

This work location is very convenient! The CDSS is located two blocks from the light rail and public transportation: within walking distance to the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmer’s markets and the Golden 1 Arena. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80. 

This position is eligible for hybrid work in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order N-22-25 and at the sole discretion of the Department of Social Services under California Government Code Section 14200. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be re-evaluated at any time. The incumbent will be expected to report for in office work and attend work related in-person events as deemed operationally necessary. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the CDSS policies. 

Please note: Regular commute is not compensable.

The CACFP is a federal and state-funded program that provides reimbursements for nutritious meals and snacks to eligible children and adults who are enrolled for care at participating child care centers, day care homes, and adult day care centers. CACFP also provides reimbursements for meals served to children and youth participating in afterschool care programs, children residing in emergency shelters, and adults over the age of 60 or living with a disability and enrolled in daycare facilities. CACFP contributes to the wellness, healthy growth, and development of young children and adults in the United States. 

Under the general direction of the Program Administration Bureau Chief, the Program Operations and Policy Section of the CACFP Branch provides direction and leadership for the program administration and support teams for the CACFP. These groups are charged with supporting CACFP participants' successful operation of the CACFP, and developing and implementing statewide program policies.

Please answer the following questions:

A) Describe a time you led a group of staff or partners to address a complex or unclear federal or state law, regulation, or policy guidance. Explain how you guided the group in clarifying the requirement, turning it into practical guidance or procedures, communicating expectations, responding to questions, and supporting consistent implementation in a way that reduced barriers for those receiving services.

B) Describe a time where you served as a project lead or coordinator in an analytical setting and were responsible for delivering a defined work product under competing priorities. Explain how you planned the work, tracked tasks and deadlines, adjusted the approach when constraints emerged, and kept work moving to completion, including steps you took to prevent delays or rework. Focus on project execution and workload management rather than interpreting laws, regulations, or policy guidance. Include how you maintained momentum and a constructive working climate while meeting deadlines.
