Our Investment Technology & Performance (ITP) group within the Investment Officer (INVO) is responsible for overseeing data and technology used to manage the Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF) and Affiliate Funds, and drive our CalPERS mission. ITP is seeking an Investment Officer (IO) III to serve as a senior lead on the Investment Officer Data Platform team.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Support and extend the Investment Office's enterprise data platform, including its data architecture, modeling structure, governance capabilities, and operational processes that manage, support, and provide visibility and access to investment-centric data assets across INVO.
  • Act as a lead analyst/architect, partnering with investment asset classes, Investment Operations, governance bodies, and technology teams to translate business needs into well-governed, high-quality, and scalable data capabilities.
  • Play a key role in advancing trusted investment data through strong data architecture, lifecycle management, governance, and vendor-supported tooling, while enabling adoption, transparency, and data literacy across the Investment Office. 
Telework Information: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

Effective July 1, 2025, The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the 3 percent reduction in pay.

This position is eligible for an annual incentive award and Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) pay differential. The annual incentive opportunity is 0- 20% of salary and is based on the level of achievement against several quantitative and qualitative measures. Permanent full-time employees who possess certification as a CFA may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • Experience partnering with application development, infrastructure, and security teams to design and operate data platforms across cloud and on-premise environments
  • Experience developing and translating business use cases into data architecture, conceptual/logical models, and technical specifications that support investment decision-making
  • Knowledge of investment management concepts and core investment data domains (e.g., portfolios, securities, benchmarks, transactions, positions, performance, or reference data)
  • Experience implementing data quality controls and stewardship processes for critical data sets, including master and reference data
  • Ability to build consensus, facilitate cross-functional decisions, and balance competing business and technical priorities
  • Experience supporting project delivery using structured delivery methods (including agile or hybrid approaches)
  • Experience supporting organizational and data-related change management initiatives, including adoption of new platforms, standards, or governance processes
  • Knowledge of Master Data Management (MDM) and data governance principles, including ownership, stewardship, metadata, lineage, and data quality best practices
  • Experience participating in or supporting large-scale system, data platform, or process implementations
  • Ability to analyze complex data and information, synthesize findings, and present clear recommendations related to the management, quality, and governance of investment data
