Job Description and Duties

          This position may be filled at one of the following State Fund locations:

          Sacramento, Vacaville, Pleasanton, Glendale, and San Diego.

          We are looking for dynamic and energetic data science/analytics professionals to support our Finance Systems & Data Support team. An ideal candidate for this position will have knowledge of data technology, datamarts, and warehousing, and business intelligence reporting solutions, as well as experience in development and implementation of data and analytics governance.

          In this role, you will:

          • Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of data
          • Design, develop and maintain the organization's data and technology architecture, and data technology solutions
          • Develop and maintain data systems and tools that support the organization's data analysis and reporting needs
          • Ensure data quality and accuracy across all reporting systems
          • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and other data visualizations to communicate insights to stakeholders


          The role also requires collaboration and effective communication with peers, team members, as well as with stakeholders outside of the team with high degree of professionalism. The successful candidate will demonstrate eagerness to engineer creative solutions, and ability to adapt to needs of different projects and challenges by gaining and utilizing new skills in support of research goals.

          Special Requirements

          Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract.           Desirable Qualifications

          In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:


          • Strong programming skills in SQL and/or SAS (intermediate to advance level)
          • Experience with system database administration and troubleshooting
          • Proven experience in data management and reporting
          • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with ability to analyze large data sets and identify trends
          • 5+ years of experience working with large data and technology systems
          • 5+ years’ experience in data visualization with tools like Tableau and/or Micro strategy and/or Power BI and advance knowledge in business intelligence concepts
          • 5+ years with intermediate to advance excel to be able to perform data analysis and generate business insights
          • 5+ years using MS product skill set including word and power point
          • Knowledge of insurance, financial analysis, and accounting is a plus
