Job Description and Duties

This is an exempt executive assignment (at-will) position, non-tenured, full time, and is appointed by the Governor’s Office. Under the general direction of the California Department of Technology’s (CDT) Chief Deputy Director/Deputy State Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Deputy Director/Chief Project Officer (CPO) oversees CDT's project approval and oversight functions and owns the supporting project approval oversight policies and processes. 

The CPO is responsible for supporting state agencies and departments in the planning and successful delivery of IT projects and related procurements. This role ensures that California’s technology investments are well-coordinated, aligned with statewide priorities, and deliver meaningful value to the public. The CPO provides leadership over program and portfolio management, risk management, and project remediation efforts for highly complex and sensitive IT initiatives and procurements. In addition, the CPO oversees governance processes, including the development and implementation of associated policies, standards, and procedures.
