Job Description and Duties

The Senior Architect will perform review the seismic compliance plans with the requirements of Assembly Bills and Senate Bills, regulations, and policies. Perform preliminary, triage, normal, expedite, and over-the-counter reviews of submittal documents pertaining to the architectural design and construction of healthcare facilities as required to ensure compliance with Title 24, California Code of Regulations (CCRs) (including all referenced codes and standards there within), the Office’s Policy Intent Notices, Code Application Notices and other applicable codes, guidelines and policies, and other reference materials.  Conducts field observations as directed.  Maintains current certification with appropriate licensing board.

Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) hours each month. Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Architectural experience in hospital design or equivalent healthcare experience.
  • Experience and familiarity with Title 24, including OSHPD requirements, as it relates to the construction of health facilities.
  • Experience performing technical evaluation of construction documents.
  • Knowledge of California Accessibility Requirements.
  • Knowledge of fire/life safety compliance based on regulations in Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations.
  • Experience conducting construction observation of hospital or healthcare facilities.
  • Experience working and resolving issues with a multi-disciplinary team, clients, contractors and other technical and professional staff.
  • Experience as a project manager directing, reviewing and evaluating the work of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multi-disciplined team and handle stressful or sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to handle code enforcement issues with architects, engineers, and health care facility owners.
  • Good writing and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to reason logically and creatively to resolve problems and develop and evaluate alternatives.
