Job Description and Duties

The Asset Management Unit (AMU) manages the department’s property inventory, and provides policy guidance, support and oversight, for all property, inventory, and fleet activities. Our mission is to excel in property control and fleet management by ensuring the seamless and secure oversight of DOJ assets. Through organization and innovative technologies, we support the DOJ mission while demonstrating transparency, integrity, and fiscal responsibility. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as the DOJ Property Controller.

As a DOJ Property Controller, you will serve as the department’s lead coordinator for physical inventory, overseeing the planning and execution of a department-wide inventory spanning all agency divisions and covering a total asset portfolio valued at over $100 million. This includes managing inventory scheduling, and outreach, serving as the primary point of contact for division staff throughout the inventory process, and ensuring results are accurately captured and reconciled in the asset management systems. In this role, you will assist with interagency coordination on asset management policies and practices and collaborate with AMU staff on the monthly General Ledge reconciliation and reporting. Working in collaboration with the other DOJ Property Controller, you will also contribute to system implementation and policy development efforts. Consistently, you will also contribute to system implementation and policy development efforts. Some travel may be required.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Experience using Excel formulas, functions, and pivot tables to analyze large data sets.
  • Knowledge of ServiceNow Enterprise/Software/Hardware Asset Management modules.
  • Knowledge of Fi$CAL database system.
  • Experience coordinating enterprise-wide inventory programs, including scheduling, stakeholder outreach, and tracking completion status across multiple organizational units.
  • Experience supporting asset management workflows, including data validation, record updates, and reconciliation of physical inventory results to system records.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to create and deliver inventory guidance and training materials to diverse audiences.
  • Self-directed problem-solver who thrives in managing multiple concurrent initiatives while maintaining attention to detail and meeting critical deadlines.
