Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Information Technology Manager I - End User Support (EUS), the Information Technology Specialist I (ITS I) provides support for Department of Finance staff. Under direction, the ITS I effectively manages Windows and Mac operating systems, MS Office suite of products, hosted VoIP services, mobile devices, peripherals, IT projects, and automated office systems. The incumbent will research, analyze, and provide solutions to resolve hardware- and software-related issues at tier I & II levels. The incumbent must maintain documentation related to change management, IT processes and procedures and software and hardware inventory, as well as log help desk calls and resolutions into the help desk tracking system. The incumbent must possess strong organizational, analytical, and verbal/written communication skills; works independently and in a team environment; exercises a high degree of initiative; participates in meetings, provides status reports, and completes assignments effectively, accurately, and timely. The incumbent must keep up with current and industry trends, standards, and practices. The incumbent may be required to lift IT equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. The incumbent may be required to work overtime on short notice during peak work periods.

Special Requirements

Finance currently has a hybrid telework model, which requires employees to work in the office a minimum of two days during the workweek with additional in office days required as needed and sometimes on short notice, for reasons such as hearings, site visits, or required in-person meetings or trainings. Implementation of Executive Order N-22-25 requiring four in-office work days has been postponed until July 1, 2026, but may be subject to change.

In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025. This program reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits for the duration of the program. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the reduced amounts.
