Job Description and Duties

Metropolitan State Hospital is located in Norwalk, Los Angeles County.

The Department of State Hospitals – Metropolitan, Executive Services is accepting applications for the Supervisor I, Permanent/Full Time position.

Under supervision of the Executive Director, the Supervisor I (Hospital Communications Director) oversees the hospital communications activities and all other related work. The Hospital Communications Director is responsible and knowledgeable of relevant State and Federal laws, DSH policies, Volunteer Services, Employee Assistance Program, Patient Council, Patient’s Rights, HIPAA, and public information issues including serving as Public Records Act Request Coordinator. Assumes leadership of hospital-wide and statewide work groups and committees assigned to develop or improve employee services, public communication, and hospital policies and procedures.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Four years of work experience performing analytical, technical, clerical, or customer service duties. Academic education from an accredited college/university may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis; and

 

An additional two years of professional analytical and/or technical experience, one year of which must be equivalent to an Analyst II or higher.

Department Information

Opened in 1916, DSH-Metropolitan State Hospital is in the vibrant community of Norwalk, 15 miles east of Los Angeles. To the south are entertainment venues like Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, the marinas and beaches of Huntington, Newport and Laguna. To the west are Palos Verdes and Marina Del Rey.

 

DSH-Metropolitan State Hospital has an open campus within a security perimeter. The hospital operates approximately 826 beds. The commitment categories of patients treated at DSH-Metropolitan: Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Act, Incompetent to Stand Trial (PC 1370), Offenders with Mental Health Disorders (Penal Code Section 2964/2972/2974), Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (PC 1026).
