As the incumbent progresses in experience, assignments are more complex and may function as a lead person over the activities of various electrical and electronic engineering and technical personnel.
Appointment to Range D requires possession of a valid certificate of registration as an electrical engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Candidates selected for this position must successfully
pass a Department of Justice background check and the incumbent is also
required to sign CHP Form 101A annually.
The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) serves as
documentation of each applicant's ability to present information clearly and
concisely in writing. Please follow the instructions below; failure to include
and complete the SOQ as instructed may result in the SOQ not being considered
and in disqualification from the interview. Resumes and cover letters will not
take the place of the SOQ. The SOQ must be typed, no more than two pages in
length, and 12-point Arial font.
1. Describe your knowledge and experience applying electrical or electronic engineering principles. Include specific examples of analyzing technical data, using engineering tools and software, and interpreting plans, diagrams, or specifications.
2. Describe your experience diagnosing and resolving electrical or electronic system issues. Include methods, tools, used, and outcomes.
3. Provide an example of a technical or operational problem you identified, the steps you took to evaluate the issue, the solution you recommended, and the results.
4. Describe how you communicate technical information effectively. Include examples of both verbal and written communication and how you collaborated with others to complete a project or resolve an issue.
