Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Supervisor I, the Crime Analyst I (CA I) provides assistance to law enforcement agencies regarding various Criminal Justice Information System databases overseen by the Investigative Database Services Section, which include the Automated Property System, the California Restraining and Protective Order System, the Supervised Release File, the Stolen Vehicle System/Automated Boat System, and the Wanted Persons System. The CA I assists with quality control by monitoring data entered into various databases; provides comprehensive reports as requested by stakeholders; monitors and responds to communication from stakeholders; and assists with review and updates various resource publications.

Working Conditions

This position is designated for telework under Government Code section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California and may require reporting to headquarters or field offices and facilities to fulfill operational needs. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Justice policies.

This position is eligible for telework, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.  
Remote and hybrid schedules are subject to management approval. In addition, approved remote and hybrid schedules may be delayed for training purposes.

Please note that this classification contains multiple salary ranges. New-to-State employees will be given the minimum salary of Range A, unless you meet Alternate Range Criteria 494. For current state employees and/or those with reinstatement rights, your salary will be determined in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

ALTERNATE RANGE CRITERIA 494

Established 8/16/19, Pay Letters 19-16 and 19-17

Range A. This range shall apply to those individuals who do not meet the criteria for Range B.

Range B. This range shall apply to persons who have satisfactorily completed the equivalent of 12 months of Crime Analyst I, Range A; who have graduated from a recognized four-year accredited college or university; or who have one year of work experience obtaining, analyzing, and/or disseminating criminal justice information. When the requirements for the particular criteria are met and upon recommendation of the appointing power, the employee shall receive a rate under the provisions of California Code of Regulations, title 2, section 599.676.

Personal Leave Program: Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary wage reductions in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) accruals.
