Job Description and Duties

Are you looking to be part of a dynamic team working on water supply and infrastructure projects? Would you like to apply your skills or learn new skills in environmental permitting, fisheries and terrestrial biology? Under the close supervision of a Senior Environment Scientist (Supervisory) and within the Bay Delta Region's Habitat Conservation (HabCon) Program, the incumbent is responsible for preparing, tracking, reviewing, editing, and conducting compliance on Lake and Streambed Alteration (LSA) Agreements, California Endangered Species Act (CESA) permits, and commenting on California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and related environmental documents for Santa Clara Valley Water District (Valley Water) projects. The incumbent represents the HabCon Program and provides consultative advice when working with outside entities. The incumbent will apply the best available technical information in writing and presentations to provide significant positive consequences for Valley Water, CDFW, the public, and trust resources. Public contacts made in the course of this work are highly sensitive and involve a wide variety of special interest groups.

This position may be eligible for a telework opportunity in accordance with departmental policies and operational needs. Employees are currently required to work in-person at least two (2) days per week. Beginning July 1, 2026, employees will be required to work in-person at least four (4) days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25. Additional in-office days may be required based on operational needs.


This position is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

 

During this 12-month Limited Term assignment, you will receive full health, dental, and vision benefits! You will also earn State Service and accrue monthly leave credits.

This position may be filled in the following counties: Solano/Napa/Sonoma counties.

Working Conditions

Work on a computer for prolonged periods and operate office equipment (computers, copies/scanners, fax machines, telephones, etc.). Attend frequent site visits and meetings away from office. Field work is completed year-round and will be required sometimes in remote locations, rugged terrain, and/or adverse weather conditions. On occasion work will be physically demanding for short periods of time. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a State vehicle with and without four-wheel drive (4WD). This position will on occasion require the incumbent to wear a CDFW uniform for identification purposes.

This position will be headquartered at one of the CDFW, Bay Delta Region offices at the following locations: Fairfield, Napa, or Santa Rosa, California, to be determined for the successful candidate at the time of the job offer. This position offers the possibility of a telework agreement based on the Department's current Telework Policy.

Desirable Qualifications
