Job Description and Duties

        Come join the Financial Reporting team at State Fund!

        State Fund’s Financial Reporting team is seeking Insurance Accounting Specialists to support financial reporting, regulatory filings, and month-end close activities in a deadline-driven environment. This role requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams.

        In this role, the incumbent will:

        • Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, researching variances, and preparing supporting analyses and reports within established deadlines
        • Supporting quarterly and annual California Department of Insurance (CDI) financial statement filings and related reporting activities
        • Provide variance analysis and financial insights to management
        • Document and maintain accounting processes, procedures, and reporting guidelines
        • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to ensure timely delivery of requested information

        The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

        • CPA certification with a background in public accounting preferred; insurance accounting knowledge is a plus
        • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities to meet non-negotiable deadlines
        • Detailed-oriented with a strong sense of urgency
        • Proven ability to work as a collaborative team player
        • Experience with Oracle ERP is a plus

        Special Requirements

        Required Education

        Either:

        1. Equivalent to graduation from college, with specialization in accounting; or

        2. Completion of the equivalent of 45 semester units given by a collegiate-grade residence or correspondence institution, of which 24 units must include courses in financial accounting, managerial accounting, intermediate/advanced accounting, fund/governmental accounting, cost accounting, auditing, business law, computer applications/management information systems. Successful completion of the State Fund Accounting Course administered by the Department of Finance, shall receive credit for three semester hours toward the required accounting courses.


        Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable
        bargaining contract. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay.
