Job Summary

The Information Technology Associate (ITA) is under the general supervision of the Service Desk Supervisor, IT Supervisor II. Performs Tier 1 and routine Tier 2 client support on the Cal OES Service Desk support in a statewide enterprise environment. Responds to customer requests by phone, email, and ticketing systems, delivering technical assistance with strong customer service. Troubleshoots Windows desktops, Microsoft applications, Lotus Notes, mobile devices, printers, and endpoint hardware. Performs basic account administration in Active Directory and supports user connectivity for LAN, WAN, and wireless networks.

Supports the daily maintenance of service catalog items and workflows by processing requests, performing routine updates, and troubleshooting issues. Coordinates with the ServiceNow development team to test changes, report defects, and ensure consistent delivery of catalog services. Supports video teleconferencing equipment, basic telephone system issues. Understands fundamental data processing concepts, applies standard ITSM industry practices, documents work per Service Desk procedures, and escalates complex issues appropriately. Demonstrates effective communication, teamwork, and professionalism in a fast paced environment.

In Office: This position supports the day-to-day business operations which is handled in the office. This is not considered a hybrid telework position.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • Experience providing technical support in an enterprise Service Desk or Client Services environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Windows operating systems, desktop hardware, printers, mobile devices, and common Microsoft applications.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory account administration, including password resets, group membership, and workstation authentication issues.
  • Experience supporting or maintaining ServiceNow or other IT service management platforms, processing catalog requests, or troubleshooting workflow-related issues.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate technical information clearly to non technical users.
  • Ability to document work clearly in a ticketing system and follow established IT processes and service management standards.
  • Experience supporting basic network connectivity issues involving LAN, WAN, Wi Fi, VPN, and related technologies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams such as Field IT Operations, Voice Services, Infrastructure, Information Security, and Solutions teams.
  • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
  • Knowledge of video teleconferencing tools and basic troubleshooting of audio/visual equipment.
  • Experience with cabling, workstation setup, and hardware deployment activities.
  • Ability to produce user instructions, quick guides, or training materials when needed.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow established procedures.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and enterprise systems as required.
