Job Description and Duties

Under the administrative direction of the Chief of People and Culture Operations, the Manager II (Director) serves as the California Community College Chancellor’s Office’s (CO) Labor Relations Officer, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Officer, Health and Safety Officer, and has overall responsibility for the People and Culture Operations Office and all of its complex unique and cyclical activities. Through subordinate supervisors, the Manager II has oversight for the Classification and Pay, Performance, Exams, Health and Safety, Transactions, Benefits, Selection Services, Training, Procurement, Labor Relations, DEIA, EEO, and Business Services. Directly and through subordinate supervisors, the Manager II determines and implements CO human resources policy and administers the policies of California Department of Human Resources (CalHR), the State Personnel Board (SPB) and the State Controller's Office (SCO) to ensure effective personnel management practices throughout the Agency.

Employees must reside in CA for a job appointment. 

The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on the Chancellor’s Office’s evolving telework policy. The Chancellor’s Office supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to the headquarters office in Sacramento if an urgent need arises.

Working Conditions

Hybrid work setting provided.

Ability to make frequent public presentations, both in person and virtually.

Ability to supervise the work of others in a hybrid work setting.

Ability to use standard computer and/or office machines for an extended period of time. 

Communicate in a clear and concise manner.

Work in a climate-controlled, open office environment under artificial lighting.

Exposure to computer screens and other basic office equipment.

Public speaking and/or presentations are required.

Ability to effectively telework within the state of CA.
