Are you organized and have a talent for writing and communication? Are policy and issues related to mental health interesting to you? If so, apply to be a Policy Analyst for the Department of State Hospitals! We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team.

Under the direction of the Supervisor II in the Regulations and Policy Oversight Unit, the Policy Coordinator performs duties having a significant impact on the Department of State Hospital’s (Department’s) operations and critical to the Department’s basic mission by developing, implementing and evaluating state-wide mental health and state hospital policies and promulgating State regulations in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act (APA).

The incumbent may function independently and/or as a team leader and will be responsible for facilitating the development of department-wide policies. This position requires strong grammar, spelling, proofing, and writing skills; as well as Microsoft Excel experience. The incumbent will communicate with departmental staff at all levels, as well as attorneys and clinicians. Strong written and verbal communication, organization, writing, analysis, and customer service skills have been found to provide candidates with the best foundation for success.

Working Conditions

  • DSH-Sacramento is located at an 11-floor high rise building.
  • This position reports to the Allenby Building in Sacramento. A hybrid Telework schedule, consistent with the State of California's in-office requirement, may be considered with prior approval from management.
  • The State’s Commute Programs provide bicycle, mass transit and vanpool incentives to eligible state employees. The State’s mass transit incentive pays 100% of the transit pass up to the IRS maximum of $325 per month in 2025.

DSH-Sacramento is in a new modern, sustainable and innovative 11 story office building located at 1215 “O” Street, Sacramento, California. Some of the amenities of the new building include the following:
