Statement of Qualifications Requirement
In addition to the Standard State Application (STD 678), all interested applicants are required to submit a Statement of Qualification (SOQ). Within each response, include specific information as to how your professional experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities meet the qualifications and desirable qualifications of this position. For additional information on writing an SOQ, please visit How to Write a Statement of Qualifications.
**This will be the only tool used for determining your final score and rank on the eligibility list for this position** Please follow all of the instructions.
Please limit your SOQ to a maximum of 3 pages, single spaced, 12 point Arial font. The SOQ must be numbered in the same order as the Statement of Qualification and should address each question. Applicants who do not follow these requirements may be disqualified from the examination. Applicants who do not provide responses to the five specific questions below will be disqualified. Cover letters and resumes do not take the place of the SOQ.
Applicants will also be evaluated on how clearly and concisely their qualifications were presented throughout the SOQ (including grammar, spelling and punctuation.)
Applications received without a Statement of Qualification shall be rejected.
Please respond to the following questions in your SOQ with specific information in each of your responses:
1. Provide your experience in leading
moderate to large scientific or technical teams in meeting established
priorities, goals and objectives. Please provide one example that details your
level of experience in providing strong leadership in this area.
2. Describe your experience in building
strong business relationships internally and externally that add value to the
organization. Provide a specific example of your experience building
partnerships at the local, state, or federal level or with special interest
groups (NGOs, tribes).
3. Describe your professional experience
that demonstrates your ability to analyze complex issues and recommend
effective solutions. Please specify policy experience related to geosciences
and/or climate adaptation.
4. Describe your experience in managing and
implementing a large change within your organization. Detail your role in
facilitating this change and how your leadership impacted the change for the
entire organization.
5. How do you identify & set appropriate
long-range plans and goals to address resource needs including staffing
concerns, succession planning, knowledge transfer, staff training, and
technology?
