Under close supervision of the Program and Project Supervisor (PPS) in the Regulations and Legislative Unit within the Fuels and Transportation Division, the incumbent may serve as a team lead as the Replacement Tire Efficiency Specialist, in the development and deployment of alternative fuel vehicles, fueling infrastructure, and alternative fuel production in California, as well as in the implementation of California’s Replacement Tire Efficiency Program. The incumbent performs complex technical and analytical tasks by working independently and as part of a team to evaluate vehicle, infrastructure, fuel production, and tire efficiency issues; collaborates with tire manufacturers, agency technical and enforcement staff, and public stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of tire efficiency regulations; and assists private and public partners to introduce improved vehicles, engines, fueling stations, other related infrastructure, alternative fuels, and more efficient replacement tires through joint funding of projects, technical assistance, and education and outreach activities.
The primary responsibilities of this position are to identify, assess, and prioritize innovative, cost-effective strategies that reduce toxic air pollutants, greenhouse gas emissions, and fuel consumption; to provide incentives for approaches that achieve the goals of the Clean Transportation Program, the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) Programs, and the Replacement Tire Efficiency Program; and to establish working relationships with other government agencies and industry stakeholders to ensure that the Energy Commission has access to current technology information and can recommend policy options that support and expand programs related to alternative and renewable fuels, vehicle technologies, and tire efficiency regulations.
