Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Supervisor I (Creative Services Supervisor), the duties of the Graphic Designer III include, but are not limited to the designing and creation of graphics for exhibits at the 22nd District Agricultural Association (22nd DAA). This may include competitive and non-competitive exhibits such as special theme exhibits, photography and arts, woodworking, livestock and farm, flower and garden shows, Farm 2U, and/or special exhibits. Assists with the planning, decorating, and presentation of exhibits. The duties of the Graphic Designer III include, but are not limited to, creating and producing high-quality materials for print, multimedia, and other exhibit needs. This position serves as a design specialist, responsible for the development and production of complex, graphic design projects, and serves as a creative consultant to other departments.

Working Conditions

Work environment is primarily performed in a standard office with artificial light and climate control.  At times, work may be performed outdoors; before, after (set-up/tear-down) and during the annual Fair and for event/space tours and coordination.  Work activities involve working in an office setting; sitting for prolonged periods of time; bending neck in an upward and downward flexion and side-to-side turning of neck; pushing and pulling file drawers; moving bank boxes up to 25 pounds; and operating standard office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine finger dexterity and fine coordination including the use of a computer keyboard, mouse, calculator, telephone, and radio. Work activities involve the abilities to verbally communicate and hear to express and exchange information, see to perform assigned tasks, and read, write, and speak English at a level required for successful job performance.

$6,285.00 - $8,103.00 As part of the State’s efforts to address ongoing budget shortfalls, from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027, the Personal Leave Program 2025 [PLP] will be in effect. This consists of a 3% pay reduction in base monthly salary in exchange for an accrual of 5 hours of PLP leave per month.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • A certification or degree from an accredited or recognized professional institute or body in the program areas of art, design, visual communications, and computer graphics;
  • Knowledge of the Principles of graphic design; graphic design software applications;procedures for creating traditional and/or electronic files for publication;
  • Experience with the principles and techcniques of three-dimensional exhibit preparation;
  • Experience with large-scale graphics, spatial layouts, and architectural integration;
  • Experience in translating complex statistics and workflows into clear, digestible visuals at a large fair, event center, or similar venue;
  • Experience and knowledge of large-format materials, pre-press setups, and substrate limitations;
  • Ability to communicate effectively; use the elemetns of design to create page layouts; learn and apply new software; produce freehand drawing and color illustrations
