The Community Energy Reliability and Resilience Investment (CERRI) Program funds grid hardening and energy resilience projects across California that increase community energy resilience and reliability, advance state energy policy goals, better protect communities from extreme weather, and create good-paying jobs. The CERRI Program is managed by the Energy Resilience Unit, part of the Energy Research and Development Division’s Sustainability and Resilience Branch.
Under the general direction of the Branch Manager of the Sustainability and Resilience Branch, the Energy Resilience Technical Lead provides technical and program leadership in the planning, development, and implementation of the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) research, development, demonstration, and deployment and other activities focused on energy resilience and grid reliability deployment projects and activities; develops and analyzes alternatives to current grid reliability methods; and evaluates new electric technologies and their relationships to present and future resource plans to transition California’s energy systems to meet the state’s clean energy goals.
The Energy Resilience Technical Lead works closely with the Energy Resilience Unit and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and administer the CEC’s CERRI Program.
The Energy Research & Development Division deploys over $200 million annually to advance new scientific approaches and technology innovations to meet the state’s clean energy and climate change policies, including but not limited to the areas of renewable energy supply, building and industrial decarbonization, sustainable transportation, energy storage, energy distribution, resilience and reliability, and carbon management.
The Sustainability and Resilience Branch invests in projects and applied research that increase community energy resilience and reliability, accelerate food production decarbonization, and support California's transition to a climate-resilient, equitable, and sustainable zero-carbon energy system. The Energy Resilience Unit leads efforts to deploy grid resilience and reliability projects under the CERRI Program that directly benefit communities and promote equity in energy storage, microgrids, demand flexibility, workforce development, and other technologies and strategies.
