Department Information

The Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (CCDPHP) is an Executive Level, Deputy Director Office, within the California Department of Public Health. The Center addresses the prevention and control of chronic diseases and injuries through a focus on the social and environmental determinants of health and health inequities. The Center’s programs encompass chronic disease and injury surveillance, tobacco control, nutrition and physical activity, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, asthma, obesity prevention, injuries and violence prevention, occupational and environmental disease control.

Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Assistant Deputy Director, Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (CCDPHP), the Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA) will independently provide the more responsible, varied, and complex analytical and programmatic support for the CCDPHP on a variety of critical and high-profile issues pertaining to legislation, public affairs, and other critical assignments. The AGPA acts as the Office’s Personnel Liaison (PL), Training Coordinator (TC), backup Attendance Coordinator (AC) and performs related duties.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Experience working in an Executive Level Office, and a very fast paced office with experience in handling multiple competing priorities and shifting expectations.

Experience reviewing policy and legislative proposals, analyses, reviewing against programs, activities, priorities, state mandates. And, knowledge of state public affairs processes.

Excellent communication both written and oral, and interpersonal skills; experience in team-oriented environment, with small and large teams; excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to pay attention to details and understand how details play an integral role in the work required, and excellent attendance.

Strong analytical skills which include detailed problem resolution skills and ability to make sound recommendations as a result of these actions. Approaches a problem by using a logical, systematical, and sequential approach.

Self-motivated and strong work ethic.
