Job Description and Duties

This recruitment may be used to fill positions in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting.


Under the supervision of the Supervising Registered Nurse II/III, Correctional Facility (CF), and the delegation and clinical direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), CF and other members of the licensed nursing team, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs various patient care activities and related nonprofessional health care activities for patients in a variety of treatment facilities and health care settings.  As directed and in collaboration with the nursing care team, the CNA is primarily responsible for performing basic nursing care procedures, assisting patients with physical, personal care, activities of daily living, and ambulatory assistance needs. The CNA is responsible for addressing the ongoing needs of patients, working with the licensed nursing staff and other health care providers, and promoting the efficient, appropriate, and cost-effective use of health care resources.

Minimum Qualifications:

Possession of a valid Nursing Assistant Certificate issued by the California Department of Public Health.

All employees must have general qualifications as described by California Code of Regulations, title 2, section 172.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority; therefore, individuals with other eligibility may be considered in the event no SROA or Surplus candidates apply. Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).
