Under the direction of the UNIX Support Group, the AIX Information Technology Manager (ITM) I, the Information Technology Specialist (ITS) I provides complex level system administration for central UNIX (AIX) servers in a highly available and reliable computing environment.
 Services include: complex design, development, configuration, system and user application installation, maintenance of system services including patching, monitoring of system performance and status, diagnosis and repair of system failures in accordance with best practices in system administration and security.  The Technical Specialist assists clients with complex troubleshooting and resolving end-user issues; remains aware of current trends in computing and evaluates new developments in computing hardware and software; creates programs and scripts in support of the group’s existing services and new offerings and researches, acts as a team leader and participates in the complex systems projects and Infrastructure upgrades.  This position requires the application of skills in analysis, planning, project management, documentation, system performance and resource utilization information gathering and analysis and vendor interaction and problem reporting and resolution.

Working Conditions

Special Requirements

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS (SOQ)

A Statement of Qualifications is required to be considered for this position.  The SOQ is a narrative discussion of your education, training, experience and skills as it relates to the desirable qualifications.  The SOQ serves as a documentation of your ability to present information clearly and concisely and should be typed.  
Resumes do not take the place of the Statement of Qualifications.  Applicants who fail to submit the required SOQ may be eliminated from the hiring process.

Instructions:
Your response to the SOQ should be no more than one (1) page in length, and should be formatted with a font of 11pt Arial, and margins on the top, bottom and sides of the pages of no less than ¾ of an inch.  The page should include your name with “Statement of Qualifications” appearing below it in the page header, and the header contents should be centered.  Each candidate’s Statement of Qualifications should describe your IT Work Experience with detail of the type of technical, operational, or system development/maintenance experience.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • A thorough understanding of large scale UNIX operating system implementations

  • Complex level knowledge of the operating system (IBM AIX v7+) and hardware.

  • Working knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g. VIO).

  • Strong ability to analyze information and situations, data and complex business systems, identify problems, reason logically and creatively, draw valid conclusions, and develop effective solutions

  • Working knowledge of Tivoli monitoring, SAN and CommVault Simpana backup software

  • Complex knowledge and experience with IBM AIX commands and various system tools or applications such as HMC, PowerVC, Virtualized I/O (VIO) and High Availability on Power Clusters

  • Complex knowledge and experience with NIM, CSM, LDAP, NFS, JFS2, live partition mobility

  • Additional knowledge and experience with other UNIX operating system environments (e.g. other UNIX distributions; Linux, Solaris, HP/UX) and Hypervisors

  • Knowledge of SVC/storage, Cloud Computing

  • Knowledge of IT Project management practices and techniques

  • Knowledge of SDLC, ITIL

  • Knowledge of the department’s quality culture, core values, vision and mission

  • Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment and to function under pressure and in a constantly changing environment.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills

  • Understanding the importance of good customer service and the necessity of effective communication to meet customer’s business needs

  • Knowledge and experience with IT security principles and industry best practices
