Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Chief of Economic Research and an economist on staff, the Research Data Analysts will assist with economic forecasts for California, analyze current policy proposals, and participate in reviews of regulatory impacts from California agencies proposing new regulations.  The topics span all areas of state policy and regulations, such as insurance, environmental policies, health care, and worker safety, among others.  Finance is the Governor’s chief fiscal policy adviser, and seeks to promote long-term economic sustainability and responsible resource allocation.  The Forecasting Unit within Finance is responsible for the official forecasts for California, and the Chief Economist and Program Budget Manager is the state’s recognized economic expert.

 

Depending on interest, Research Analysts may choose to specialize either in the macroeconomic or microeconomic side.  The training and coaching will be geared towards preparing for future graduate work, exposing the Research Analysts to many different aspects of being an economist in state service, and preparing them to participate in the policymaking process.
