Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Policy Manager/Coach (Staff Services Manager II) and the operational direction of the Staff Services Manager I, the Health Facilities Evaluator Nurse (HFEN) is responsible for the performance of nursing service reviews, technical assistance, and quality assurance activities for the Community-Based Adult Services (CBAS) Branch.  These responsibilities require a thorough understanding of the statewide CBAS program.  The CBAS program provides health, therapeutic, and social services in a non-institutional day setting in order to restore or maintain the optimal capacity for self-care of frail older adults and younger adults with disabilities.  There are approximately 240 licensed and certified CBAS centers statewide.  The CBAS Branch certifies these centers for participation in the Medi-Cal Program.  The HFEN will work in a team environment and in collaboration/coordination with CBAS Branch staff, CBAS center personnel, and other stakeholders.

Working Conditions

Two story building and standard office modular workspace. Requires sitting for long periods of time while using a personal computer, reviewing documents, and attending meetings in designated areas.

Statewide travel is required, up to 40% yearly, which is equal to approximately 1 consecutive week every 2-3 weeks on average

Ability to lift 25 pounds.

Department Information

The California Department of Aging (CDA) administers programs that serve older adults, adults with disabilities, family caregivers, and residents in long-term care facilities throughout the State. The Department administers funds allocated under the federal Older Americans Act, the Older Californians Act, and through the Medi-Cal program.

 

Recognizing that California’s over-65 population is projected to grow to 8.6 million by 2030, Governor Gavin Newsom issued Executive Order N-14-19 calling for the creation of a Master Plan for Aging to be developed by October 1, 2020. The Master Plan will serve as a blueprint that can be used by state government, local communities, private organizations and philanthropy to build environments that promote healthy aging. CDA will play an integral part in the development and implementation of the Master Plan.
