Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Chief Data and Science Advisor, the Research Data Specialist (RDS) II will function as a Senior Data and GIS Specialist. The incumbent independently provides data analyses in support of departmental priorities for carbon, hazards, and watershed management as well as sustainable economic development. The incumbent is expected to have high level knowledge of general and geospatial data analysis and statistics, data management, and project management.

1) What interests you about this position and why do you believe your mix of education, experience, and other qualifications will make you successful in this position?

2) Describe your experience conducting research in a lead capacity using advanced quantitative geospatial methods. Provide an overview of the type and complexity of analyses you have led and how you have managed them as a project. What were the outputs and how were they used?

3) What is your experience with communicating or reporting the results of analysis in both written and visual (maps, charts) formats? Describe any particularly interesting or challenging projects for which you’ve developed materials to share results with diverse stakeholders.

4) Much of our analysis requires automating data management and processing. Describe your experience with automating data analysis (spatial and non-spatial) using programming or scripting. What scripting languages are you proficient with and which applications do you prefer to use for analysis?

5) The Department operates in a complex environment with stakeholders ranging from private land owners and the general public, through local, state, and federal agencies, academic and non-governmental organizations. Describe your prior experience collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders on an analysis and the presentation of results to achieve a desired outcome.
