Job Description and Duties

The Department of Fish and Wildlife Fisheries Branch has a rare laboratory based cryopreservation position for a motivated Scientific Aid. Amazing opportunity to learn laboratory experiment structure creation, monitoring and execution, assist with the expansion and quantification of a stable hatchery cryopreservation procedures, work in a top notch laboratory atmosphere and potentially establish a long term post collegiate career. Prior lab and/or DNA experience not necessary and engaging individuals will have the chance to learn and experience methods and procedures that can assist them for their entire career. This position will assist with processing and cryopreservation of milt samples. Perform laboratory activities in support of cryopreservation program objectives including DNA extraction, PCR amplification, genotyping, and sequencing. Also, perform genetics laboratory housekeeping duties such as preparation of laboratory reagents, ordering and restocking laboratory supplies, cleaning and sterilization of laboratory glassware and equipment as needed. This position is lab based in our North Sacramento laboratory location. Come join our small but mighty team today!

Working Conditions

Reporting location is 1415 North Market St - Suite 9, Sacramento, CA 95834

Work will be conducted primarily in the laboratory. Office duties require use of a computer for several hours; sitting, standing, or walking. Occasional travel to CDFW hatcheries or field locations when necessary will include standing, walking, and driving.

Special Requirements

Work in the laboratory will involve standing or sitting at equipment stations. May require lifting of 40 pounds or less. Occasional travel to CDFW hatcheries or field locations when necessary.

In order to be eligible for this position, you must meet the Minimum Qualifications for this classification:
Possession of a valid driver license.
and
Either I: Education: Equivalent to completion of two years of college with a minimum of 10 semester hours in biological or chemistry sciences.
or
II: One year of experience in surveying, studying or evaluating fish or wildlife populations, data habitats or users, or working in a chemistry laboratory.
