Working Conditions

DRE COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols

Face Coverings
While working on-site at any DRE offices, employees must follow current face covering guidance as issued by the California Department of Public Health. Employees working in a county where the local health jurisdiction has issued a stricter public health ordinance must comply with the local order.

Mandatory Testing
Unvaccinated employees will be required to be tested for COVID-19 at least once a week prior to working on-site at a DRE office. Employees who wish to be exempt from mandatory testing must provide proof of being fully vaccinated from COVID-19 to Human Resources.

Department Information

The California Legislature enacted the nation's first real estate license law in 1917. Providing for the licensing and regulation of real estate licensees, this law continues to serve as a model for similar legislation in many other states. The California Department of Real Estate (DRE) continues to enjoy a nationwide reputation as a leader in real estate licensing and regulation.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
Government Service
Incumbents in this position, who hold an active California real estate license, will be required place that license on Government Service. The license renewal right is protected while the licensee is employed by a government agency in a position which presents a conflict of interest with holding an active real estate license. The licensee may not perform acts for which a California real estate license is required. See Section 10161.5 of the B&P Code.

Fingerprinting/Background Clearance
Title 11, Section 703(d) of the California Code of Regulations requires criminal record checks of all personnel who have access to Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI). Pursuant to this requirement, incumbents in this position will be required to submit fingerprints to the Department of Justice and be cleared before hiring.
