Job Description and Duties

Under general direction, in a State correctional facility in the Department of Corrections or the Department of the Youth Authority, to provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients; provide clinical supervision and training of other nursing staff; collaborate with physicians and other health care providers; take independent action within professional preparation and legal limits; to maintain order and supervise the conduct of inmates or youthful offenders; to protect and maintain the safety of persons and property; and to do other related work.

Limited Term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.


All applicants must meet the minimum qualifications (MQ’s) of the classification, per SPB Rule 250, with the exception of Training & Development (T&D) Assignment.

 

Please note: It is up to the hiring authority to accept Training and Development (T&D) assignments. If you are interested in a T&D assignment, you are not required to meet MQs; however, you must indicate T&D as your eligibility when applying.

Additional Information

Employees who are employed at Avenal State Prison for 12 consecutive qualifying pay periods will receive an annual $2,600 recruitment and retention bonus.
