Job Description and Duties

The Departmental Construction Maintenance Supervisor (DCMS) will serve as the primary point of contact with the Department of General Services (DGS) leadership ensuring that all project cost, scope, and schedule impacts for all assigned projects are being addressed accordingly via the project’s construction contract. The DCMS will also provide direct oversight of the Department of State Hospitals (DSH) Associate Construction Analysts which will be responsible for direct communication with DGS project managers, reviewing project documents, and providing the guidance and oversight necessary to effectively support the ongoing project and construction management needs across DSH’s five (5) hospitals.

Working Conditions

  • DSH is located at a new 11 floor high rise building at 1215 O Street.
  • Up to 75% of the essential functions of this position may be performed via telework and/or with flexible scheduling. Consistent with Policy Directive 5338, Telework may be considered with prior approval from management. If approved, incumbent is expected to provide in-office coverage on a rotational basis, and attend a variety of face to face meetings, and/or may travel throughout California as needed, with prior notice.
  • Work overtime as needed and travel statewide to five hospital locations.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions including rain heat or cold.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperature, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

In July 2021 DSH moved into a new modern, sustainable and innovative office building located at 1215 “O” Street, Sacramento, California. Some of the amenities of the new building include the following:

  • First-floor retail space (separate access from 12th Street)

  • Large, shared conference room on the first floor with a maximum capacity of 162 individuals

Temporary Appointments may be made to anyone regardless of eligibility. Temporary Appointments may not exceed 9 months and will require eligibility to be obtained through an examination process in order to transition to a permanent appointment.

Proof of Vaccination Status Information

Statement of Qualifications

The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be no longer than two pages in length using Arial 12 point font and should answer the following:
  1. Describe a time when you anticipated potential problems during a project that were significant and you developed preventive measures. What was the potential problem? How did you identify the potential problem? What was the potential impact to your unit? What did you do? What was the outcome?
  2. Describe your project and/or construction management background in working with Capital Outlay, Deferred Maintenance/Special Repair, or comparable large projects with various moving parts.
  3. Conveying complex messages in writing may require the creative use of graphics and other visual aids. Provide us with an example of when you mentored staff on effectively conveying complex ideas in writing in an accurate, clear, and concise manner that could be easily understood by the audience. What was the situation? What did you do? What was the outcome?
