Job Description and Duties

The Department of Social Services is hiring for two Staff Services Managers II (Specialist) positions to lead the strategic planning, coordination, and

implementation of mission-critical special projects and to support key strategic goals of the Department.  This position serves as a Project Manager to the Directorate and works with a high degree of independence to lead multi-disciplinary teams across the Department.  This may include the development of implementation plans concerning significant changes to federal or state law, coordination of policy development, review and editing of key public-facing documents, synchronizing department-wide efforts such as program design, modernizing Department strategies, and more.  The positions offer opportunities to advance important decisions that affect at least 8 million Californians.  Our teams do their daily work in an environment where creativity, collaboration, and proactive problem solving are fostered and strongly encouraged.

Special Requirements

1.  Please describe your experience managing policy and program design.  Provide an example of a high-priority policy or program initiative that you successfully managed that had a significant impact.  Identify any project management or organizational tools used.

 

2.  This position will need someone who can quickly understand complex circumstances and information and effectively synthesize that information so it can be easily understood by various audiences.  Please give an example of an experience in this kind of situation when you communicated with:

(a) Leadership within your organization

(b) Partners outside your organization

3. How do you go about completing time-sensitive assignments that involve getting work products from multiple contributors, including individuals who do not report to you?

Training and Development assignments may be considered based on the availability of eligible candidates and are subject to approval by the Hiring Authority prior to appointment. Training and Development assignments are considered limited term, 12 months, and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

 

Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview, but they must provide proof of residence in California prior to being eligible for appointment.
