Job Description and Duties

Excited about waterfowl, upland birds and other small game mammals? Would you like to drive applied research to improve hunter opportunity and improve habitats around the state? Looking for achieving real results on the ground while understanding whether implemented actions had the intended beneficial effects for wildlife? then this may be the job for you!

1. Oversee statewide conservation and management activities for waterfowl, upland and other small game.

2. Supervise scientists leading and supporting projects statewide.

3. Manage budgets, contracts, agreements and collaborate with constituents.

4. Work together with passionate lands management and regional staff to implement habitat solutions.

This position offers the possibility of an office-centered telework agreement based on the Department's current Telework Policy.


In order to be eligible for this position, you must either be transfer eligible or take and pass the following exam.

Working Conditions

Should be able to in the office using a personal computer and keyboard at least several hours a day, sitting most of the time but may involve standing or sitting for brief periods. Field work may be done in uneven terrain and involve hiking for extended periods and carrying a 30 pound backpack. Aerial surveys from a small fixed wing aircraft or helicopter will be done occasionally. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle and equipment and be prepared to travel moderately using a State vehicle.

Special Requirements

Demonstrated ability to act independently to resolve technical issues; ability to develop schedules and complete tasks accordingly; meet reporting requirements and deadlines. Ability to supervise, direct and conduct biological resource work; ability to oversee field data collection safely; travel throughout the state; and work at odd hours. Skills to develop and make effective oral presentations before the public and stakeholders. Ability to direct online presence and create social media messaging.
