The CDPH Injury and Violence Prevention Branch (IVPB) is responsible for developing and implementing policies, programs, and surveillance/evaluation to prevent deaths and disability from injury; IVPB promotes a public health approach to addressing injury prevention. Using data from CDPH Vital Statistics death files, as well as data on emergency department visits and hospitalizations, IVPB is a source of public health surveillance data on unintentional non-fatal injuries and injury-related fatalities, including drownings, falls, traumatic brain injury, and motor vehicle crashes.
