Programs 1, 3 & 5 are accepting applications for full time, permanent Office Technician (Typing) positions.  Positions are under the supervision of the Program Assistant. The Office Technician performs a variety of general and complex secretarial/clerical support services; and exercises a high degree of initiative and independence requiring excellent organization and time management skills.  Assignments include, but not limited to, typing correspondence, reports, and forms; data input, taking meeting minutes; scheduling appointments and patient team conference schedule; record keeping and filing systems; and ordering of supplies.  Further, proficiency in MICROSOFT Office, Excel and Outlook is desirable.  This position requires professional conduct with good interpersonal skills and respect in working with the diverse patient population served including nursing and professional staff. This position supports other units and the program office as needed. A typing certification is required for this Office Technician (T) position. With your application, please provide a typing certificate issued within the last four years that certifies your ability to type at a speed of 40 WPM. We will honor typing certificates certified from a five (5) minute typing test that meets the CalHR requirements, with a minimum of 40 WPM (words per minute). Typing tests must be proctored either virtually or in person and must be signed.

Department Information

Founded in 1875, Napa State Hospital is the only state hospital in Northern California for persons struggling with severe mental illness.  Classified as a low to moderate security facility, the hospital has a bed capacity to treat up to 1,362 patients on an attractive campus with treatment units located on 138 acres. Staff is dedicated and committed to delivering high quality, cost-effective, professional services and specialized programs in an environment that promotes continuous improvements in treatment for individuals with mental disabilities.


Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay.
