Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) in the Office of Information Services (OIS), the incumbent will lead and drive the strategic implementation and operational excellence of the ServiceNow, Google Cloud, Salesforce, Microsoft platforms across the Department, covering all projects for all divisions and maintenance and operations. The incumbent will provide expert consultative leadership to align technology with business goals, oversee system integrator performance, manage platform licenses, introduce cloud / platform innovations, and ensure security, scalable and sustainable automation solutions that advance enterprise efficiency and service delivery. Consults with senior management to ensure strategic goals are met.

This position requires the IT Manager II to maintain acceptable, consistent and regular attendance at such level as is determined at the department’s sole discretion; Must be regularly available and willing to work the hours the department determines necessary or desirable to meet its business needs. The IT Manager II effectively communicates appropriately when dealing with the public and/or other employees of the department; develop and maintain knowledge and skills related to specific tasks, methodologies, materials, tools, and equipment; complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner; and adhere to departmental policies and procedures regarding attendance, leave, and conduct.

Working Conditions

This position is located at: 2180 Harvard Street, Suite# 160, Sacramento, CA 95815.

The incumbent performs work in an open-spaced, partitioned office environment with an assigned office in Sacramento, CA. The office is climate-controlled with natural and artificial light.  The incumbent will utilize the computer daily. DIR is currently in a hybrid telework schedule and Incumbent will be required to work on site two days a week.

Describe your experience leading enterprise level cloud and AI platforms (such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, Google Cloud, Microsoft cloud services, and Artificial Intelligence solutions) in a large organization. In your response, please include:
• The organizational context and your role.
• How you developed and implemented strategic roadmaps and governance (e.g., standards, architecture, steering committees).
• Specific results you achieved (for example, modernization outcomes, improved reliability, cost optimization, or responsible AI adoption).

2. Managing Managers, Delivery, and Operations
Describe a situation where you managed other IT leaders (such as platform managers or IT Manager I) to deliver complex modernization initiatives while maintaining secure and reliable operations. In your response, please include:
• How you aligned multiple teams or platforms with competing priorities.
• How you ensured project delivery (scope, schedule, budget, quality) and ongoing Maintenance & Operations, security, and compliance.
• The outcomes of your actions and what you would do differently next time, if anything.

3. Talent Development, Innovation, and Change Management
Describe how you have built and developed a high performing team in cloud, data, and/or AI, while driving innovation in a public sector or similarly regulated environment. In your response, please include:
• Your approach to recruitment, coaching, performance management, and workforce development (including upskilling to modern cloud/AI capabilities).
• An example of an innovation (such as an AI use case, data platform enhancement, or major cloud improvement) you led or sponsored, including how you managed risk and change.
• How your leadership contributed to long term, sustainable improvements for the organization.
