Job Description and Duties

Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced Office- Centered environment with variety in your work? The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Captain with experience as a peace officer investigating auto, workers’ compensation, property and casualty insurance fraud.

This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700), which includes an Assuming Office filing within 30 days of appointment, annual filings, and a Leaving Office filing within 30 days of physical separation. Non-compliance with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may result in the voiding of appointment, financial penalties, or enforcement actions.

Working Conditions

 

  • Must be able to work in a law enforcement environment that includes the presence of firearms
  • Frequent sitting is required
  • The incumbent must be able to work in a high-rise building.
  • The incumbent may telework in accordance with CDI's Telework Policy. Teleworking employees may be required to report to their headquarters office location on designated telework days. Travel expenses are not reimbursed, however other authorized transit subsidies do exist for those who qualify.

  • Travel is required within and/or outside the State of California via private or public transportation (i.e., automobile, airplane, etc.) Travel may include overnight stay.

    Supplemental Questionnaire

    A Supplemental Questionnaire is REQUIRED and must be submitted with your Employment Application (STD. 678) in order to be considered for this position. Applicants who fail to submit a Supplemental Questionnaire will be eliminated from the selection process.     1. Describe your experience, investigating and supervising the investigation of complex insurance fraud cases. Include your experience utilizing surveillance, undercover operations, and confidential informants as a Detective and as a Sergeant.

    2. Describe your experience in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, and training new employees as a supervisor.

    3. Share your experience establishing and maintaining cooperative and productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Include experience overcoming challenges relating to communication, staffing changes, or filing decisions.
