Job Description and Duties

Geotechnical Services (GS), Office of Geotechnical Design South (OGDS) is looking to hire a Senior Engineering Geologist (Sr EG) specialist. GS will also consider candidates in the Senior Transportation Engineer (Sr TE) Specialist, classification, only one hire will be made. Please refer to the appropriate JC# to apply.

Under the direction of the Chief, OGDS, the Geotechnical Liaison Geologist serves as the single focal point as a liaison between the District Planning, District Project Managers, DES PPM&OE, and OGDS staff for securing project resourcing for projects in Districts 7, 8, 11, and 12. The incumbent supports OGDS clients and partners by coordinating task management activities for all geotechnical matters, including addressing shifting District priorities, attending District Project Management/Status meetings, and providing updates on geotechnical progress and status. The Geotechnical Liaison Geologist also occasionally serves as a liaison with other subdivisions within the Division of Engineering Services.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Special Requirements

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required. The SOQ serves as documentation of each candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. The SOQ must be typed, no more than two pages, single-spaced, using a 12-point font with 1-inch margins.

1. Describe how your knowledge, experience, and skills in workplan estimating and task management in previous roles align with the duties and responsibilities outlined in the position’s duty statement. Provide specific examples.
2. Explain how you have demonstrated customer focus in previous roles. Provide one or more examples showing how you engaged with stakeholders, addressed their needs, and ensured timely project delivery.
3. Describe your demonstrated skillset to manage multiple priorities and deadlines through specific examples.
4. Provide examples of your previous work experience that demonstrate your ability to prioritize project delivery workload, while also effectively and efficiently managing resources, schedules, and deadlines.
