Job Description and Duties

Under general direction of the Chief, Office of Air Quality and Climate Change (Supervising Transportation Planner), the Senior Environmental Planner serves as the program manager for Environmental Considerations. The Senior Environmental Planner leads the environmental aspects of climate adaptation planning for the Department of Transportation Planning (DOTP), such as developing adaptation tools for project planning which includes development and implementation of the Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Program. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating with the Caltrans, Division of Environmental Analysis (DEA), and all 12 districts' planning and environmental staff, to establish and manage the Environmental Planning program.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

2. Describe your experience working with internal and external partners on environmental or transportation planning efforts. Provide an example of how you coordinated stakeholders, addressed differing priorities, and achieved a successful outcome.

3. Describe your experience managing program resources, budgets, or workload. Explain how you established priorities, monitored resources, and ensured program objectives and deadlines were met.
